ARKA is a crossover band that blends in genres to explore new avenues of music. Rock, pop, Indian Classical, jazz, etc. are just ingredients to prepare a musical concoction that can be savored by every soul on this planet. ARKA means the sun in Sanskrit, a source of energy where they draw their inspiration from. Just like the sun, they intend to reach the darkest and farthest corners and illuminate it. Every band member of ARKA prefers themselves to be known as ARKANS, and every ARKAN is a virtuoso in the music fraternity. Selva Ganesh, Karthik, Mishko M’Ba, Ravichandra Kulur, Santhosh Mishra and Gino Banks are the heart of ARKA and have awe striking skills in their respective fields.

ARKANS have performed with a wide spectrum of artists like John Mclaughin, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan, Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram, Mike Stern, Guthrie Govan, Ray Charles, Jonas Helborg, Niladri Kumar and other musical legends at prestigious places like Carnegie Hall in New York, Disney Hall in Los Angeles, Sydney Opera House in Australia, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London etc. Performed across the globe and with artists who are globally renowned, ARKANS believe that music is God, and God is within. Stemming out from the land of diversity, ARKA excels in the field of progressive fusion that’s essentially a mix of varied genres. ARKANS bring their expansive knowledge and years of experience on paper, and strive to compose something that’s completely unheard of till now.

Selvaganesh is one of the biggest names in the world of rhythm. He has been mesmerizing the audience with his immaculate style and electrifying presence on stage. Born to Grammy  winner Vikku Vinayakram of Shakti, it is no wonder that rhythm flows in his blood. Selvaganesh joined Shakti, in late 90’s to play along with John McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain stirring the world of music. Together, they performed multiple times in world’s top venues and huge international music festivals for 17 years. While the kanjeera appears to be a simple instrument, the raw energy that Selva injects into it and the predominantly ethnic flavor of his mastery emerging from his deep connect with reality. He has transformed the sound and identity of kanjeera which makes it sound like a huge drum kit. Selva is a showman whose long hair and nimble fingers catapulted Shakti to fame. Selva has developed a kanjeera which is named after him for the world’s leading drum company, Remo.

RAVICHANDRA KULUR is an internationally acclaimed flautist, who was regarded as a flute maestro by the legend Pandit Ravi Shankar. Ravi has performed extensively around the globe at venues ranging from Carnegie Hall in New York and the Disney Hall in Los Angeles to the Sydney Opera house in Australia and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London with maestro Ravi Shankar and Anoushka Shankar. Ravi has been part of many international music festivals including WOMAD in UK, TFF Rudolstadt, WOMADelaide, Verbier, Paléo, Roskilde, Sfinks, Rainforest music fest in Malaysia and the San Francisco Jazz Festival, among others for his solo, duet and numerous collaborations ranging from Jazz, Celtic musicians to huge Rock bands like Jethro Tull.

GINO BANKS is the son of Louiz Banks, India‘s legendary jazz pianist and composer. Gino is  a versatile player, this leads him to performing and recording with artists and bands of all types of genres, artists like, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Rashid Khan; to Bollywood sessions and gigs with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Salim-Sulaiman, Vishal-Shekhar, to fusion groups Yuva, Niladri Kumar’s Sitar Funk, Amaan & Ayaan Ali Khan and Bala Bashkar; to rock bands like Helga’s Fun Castle, Gary Lawyer and Zero. He has performed with international musicians like Mike Stern, Guthrie Govan and so on.

MISHKO M’BA is a renowned French bassist/pianist, composer & producer. He studied western classical music at Toulouse and focused later on jazz and rock. As a much demanded bass player who really makes his instrument sing, he is touring in USA, Europe and Asia with various bands of different musical styles for many years. He is among the cream of French bassists, having worked with renowned Artists such as Ray Charles, Lucky Ali, Kaled and Didier Lockwood. He has an exciting, intensely dynamic style, contributing melodic and rhythmic structures which are the very heartbeat of ‘Emergence’.

KARTHIK started his career at a very young age with multi Grammy and multi Oscars award winner, Indian film music composer A R Rahman. In a short span, Karthik has already sung over 4500 songs in 6 languages for various composers the world over. A live wire on stage, Karthik mesmerizes his audience with his rich background in Indian classical music, magical voice, virtuosic singing, interacting & engaging with the crowd. Karthik has performed for various festivals, big venues and college crowds in India & abroad. Since 2003 till present Karthik has won 12 of India’s most prestigious awards for his playback singing.

SANTHOSH is a multifaceted guitar player and has a wide area of expertise. He is one among the rare breed of Flamenco guitar players in India and has an Indo-flamenco influence in his guitar playing wherein he smoothly blends Indian classical elements with the finger-style flamenco to create beautiful melodies. Moreover, Santhosh also holds an ATCL Diploma from the Trinity College of Music, London.
