Alix Perez
Belgian born Alix Depauw is the face behind production moniker Alix Perez, now regarded as one of the most ground-breaking and innovative producer-DJs of his generation. Shortly after his debut release, Alix saw himself catapulted to the forefront of the drum and bass scene with an ever-growing reputation and sought after catalogue of music.

With a history of critically acclaimed releases on legendary labels such as Metalheadz, V Recordings and Soul:R, Alix went on to sign exclusively to Friction’s very own imprint, Shogun Audio, the home of his remarkable debut album ‘1984.’ Straying from the traditional confines of drum & bass, ‘1984’ went on to be one of the most highly regarded and rated electronica albums of 2009, gaining extraordinary reviews and extensive support globally.

With collaborations ranging from Peven Everett to Foreign Beggars, ‘1984’s stature was further cemented with chart topping positions and rave reviews in publications such as the Metro, Mixmag and more.

Perhaps initially known best for sophisticated, soulful productions, Alix retains influences from funk, soul and hip-hop. Since his outstanding debut LP on Shogun Audio in ‘09, 2010 brought with it further successes, involving collaborations with technical gods of the highest order including Noisia, Foreign Beggars and Icicle, alongside the release of his ‘Dark Days’ EP.

2012 saw him continue with his alter-ego Arp 101 project, producing some of the most sought after broken beat electronica around. 

Zokhuma
There’s a brave new wave of alternative artists surging forth in the country; those whose tunes make their point even with the bare minimum of moving parts and producer Zokhuma (Goddess Gagged guitarist Arman Menzies) just happens to be at the forefront of the tectonic shift. Production wise, Zokhuma’s sound is a stark representative of the grime brigade–subtle, smooth, textured beats make up its skeletal framework even while a long history of great songwriting pays off in fleshing it out with riveting melodies.

EZ Riser
Launched in Oct 2012, EZ Riser is the solo project of Sohail Arora pushing cutting edge Electronica, Glitch Hop, Electro Hip Hop, Breaks, Bass House & IDM. As one half of Bay Beat Collective (BBC), Sohail Arora has been pushing bass music for over 4 years now. His solo project EZ Riser aims to showcase newer forms of exactly that, yet with particular focus on glitch-hop and electronica (with a touch of hip-hop).

A self confessed music geek and influenced by artists such as J Dilla, Pretty Lights, Michal Menert, Mr. Bill, Freddy Todd, Koan Sound, Opiuo, Spoonbill, Heyoka, Griz & many more. Ultimately, it’s EZ Riser’s fidelity to the low end that ties his sound (and most probably life) together.

Sandunes
Mumbai native: Sandunes (Sanaya Ardeshir) is known for her diverse blend of electronica which combines jazz rooted, eclectic sensibilities with progressive electronic elements.Her upbringing as a pianist and keyboard player allows her to create emotive beds of sound pertaining to an indie electronica/dance music space- a fusion of London inspired ingredients tied together with a unique south Asian feel.

Her work has been recognised by international and local indie and nu culture tastemakers– VH1 India, Border Movement, The Wild City, Inner Soul Music, Vogue, Platform Magazine, Homegrown, The Big M, Roundhouse radio (UK), RadioEletrica (Brazil), Radio one (In) and in 2013 she was also featured as an artist to watch for in Rolling Stone Magazine.

Ox7gen
There’s no innate skill involved in quality drum & bass production beyond a surge of all nighters and dying city lights. Mumbai based producer, OX7GEN (Aditya Ashok) gladly resided in the undertow, as a self taught producer & controller wizard with influences running deep – cue kingpins like Netsky, Danny Byrd and Logistics for the first wave; then expect a rising tide of original liquid/ambient drum & bass.

Even as the Indian bass movement shows exponential growth, this self-proclaimed drum n’ bass newbie has been pushing the boundaries tirelessly. It suffices to say the effortless skill and insatiable appetite for glitch has paid off as he’s managed to garner himself an impressive following since he began his solo project in 2011; He continually focuses on building a frenetic energy with his well-laid and crunchy beats, overlaid with melodious sonic layers.
