Ash Roys fifteen-year career has taken him to many big stages across the world. It all started in the late nineties with a stint in Kolkata’s then mega club, Anticlock, with some legendary nights the city still talks about. He then won the 1999 DMC World DJ Regional Finals in India and his winning streak took him overseas, to the Diamond Club in Dubai the Gulfs biggest club, where he scored a residency. These events kickstarted his career.
2004 saw a return to India with him moving to Delhi to start the next leg of his journey. He reconnected with old friends and formed the world-famous electronica band Jalebee Cartel, which gained massive popularity. Jalebee Cartel was Indias answer to raw, real underground dance music. Since its inception, Ash provided all vocal and percussive elements during their memorable live performances.
2013 saw Ash launch his own dance music record label – SoupHerb Records. SoupHerb Records is an imprint of him and Ashvin Mani Sharma, co-founders of Jalebee Cartel. The aim of the label is to provide a platform for forward thinking and experimental music producers in the genres of Techno, Minimal, House and all the sub genres that go with it.
As an individual producer and a DJ, Ashs style moves through genres that range from minimal to tech-house to techno. Other than homegrown label Soupherb, Ash Roys music has been released on various other prestigious labels such as Creepy Fingers, Monocline, Buena Onda among others. Very recently, Ash signed an EP to the mighty Trapez Ltd., which is scheduled to release late 2014.
Ash moves base to Europe every summer to have a foot on both sides of the globe with his gigs an annual appearance at the Fusion Festival in Germany, for instance. Ash has shared headliner space with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Modeselektor and Carl Cox, played with the likes of Richie Hawtin, Sasha, Cari Lekebusch, Fergie, Nic Fanciulli, Ambivalent and Kasey Taylor individually and appeared on publications such as Rolling Stone, Euphoric mag and more.
The first quarter of 2014 saw Ash win two prestigious awards, namely, ‘Best Techno DJ’ at MyFav Awards 2013-14 & ‘Best Electronic DJ’ at VH1 Sound Nation Awards, 2014.
