This week, Jamsteady presents Srinjay Banerjee with his Quartet.
About the Quartet:
The Srinjay Banerjee Quartet began as a trio in 2010 and has featured a rolling line-up of musicians since then. They are one of the few bands exclusively pushing authentic contemporary jazz sounds in Calcutta.
Someone wrote in the Hindustan Times recently that their music ‘charts a wide sonic spectrum from bebop and traditional swing, to reggae/dub and electronica, right through till contemporary jazz-fusion with third stream and modern creative leanings.’
Srinjay recently returned to the city after a year-long stint at the Swarnabhoomi School of Music in Chennai. In the time since he set down his big bag of pedals and synths, he has reassembled the Quartet while also playing guitar with the Gunzooloo squad.
He has promised a ‘fresh set-list for the quartet gig at Jamsteady. New tunes & re-arrangements’ as well as ‘some ultraviolence’. Stunna shades are optional.
The line-up for the evening is:
Willie Walters – Electric Bass
Arunava Chatterjee – Keyboards
Nilanjan Ghosh – Drums
Srinjay Banerjee – Guitars
Music on the PA will be handled by Wasubi Smith, a city jazz DJ with an ear for jagged jazz grooves, tourette funk and some wild improv. When Wasubi talks with his hands, people take note, cooperate and listen; mostly because the rhythm is what he give them.
Come join us at the largest weekly venue for live music with the happiest bar in the city!
