Cassini’s Division are returning to Princeton Club this SATURDAY and playing their first JAMSTEADY set!

About CASSINI`S DIVISION

The band formed in Salt Lake in 2001 with the aim of promoting contemporary rock at a time when covering older music was zeitgist. Cassini’s Division played weekly shows at Someplace Else for about 3 years from 2005 onwards. The band regularly performed a growing list of original songs along with contemporary covers, many of which became audience favourites in the city.

Since then, they have co-organised the Calcutta Rock Festival with the Supersonics in 2007, participated in a 13-country pan-Asian talent search show called Sutasi (where they were Wildcard category winners), as well as being one of three finalists in Channel V’s Launchpad. They’ve played so many festivals and concerts in all corners of the country that if you’re a Calcuttan meeting a 20 or 30 something rock enthusiast somewhere in India, chances are high that they will ask and tell you about time at a Cassini’s Division concert.

Over the years, Cassini’s Division has had its recordings featured on Rock Street Journal compilations and HMV Underground – Kolkata. Their album ‘Ringside View’ was released on SaReGaMa in 2010, to rave reviews from the national music press.

As the Indian independent and original rock music movement continues to grow, Cassini’s Division has rightly been recognized as one of the pioneering bands that shifted audience tastes and behaviour from boorishly insisting solely on vintage covers to publicly requesting original songs and material.

Since 2010, the band has slowed down on regular gigs as each member has been more focused on their own musical projects. But they’re back at JAMSTEADY this week
