Malhar Rang is the first concert of this season in Mumbai. The magic of this concert will be magnified by performances by the maestros of Indian classical music – Ashwini Bhide Deshpande and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan performing various Malhar art forms like Miyan Malhar,Ramdasi Malhar, Megh-Malhar, Surdasi Malhar and Gaud Malhar, among others.

Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande is a Hindustani classical music vocalist of the Jaipur- Atrauli Gharana. Because of her strong influences from theJaipur-Atrauli Gharana, Dr. Bhide-Deshpande, has created her own musical style that respects the vocal culture and presentation aesthetics of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. She holds a strong command over the three primary saptaks.

Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande said, ”I will be performing a variety of Malhar ragas and as per the tradition, these ragas are sung only during the rains, as that’s when they get their full flavour. The rains help in capturing the spirit of the ragas.”

Amjad Ali Khan was born to the illustrious Bangash lineage, rooted in the Senia Bangash School of music. Today, he shoulders the sixth generation of inheritance in this legendary lineage. After his debut, the career graph of this musical legend took the speed of light and the Indian classical music scene was witness to regular and scintillating bursts of Raga supernovas. Thus, the world saw the Sarod being given a new yet timeless interpretation by Amjad Ali Khan. He is one of the few maestros who consider his audience to be the soul of his motivation.

”Performing in Mumbai has always been a great experience. The audience genuinely appreciates classical music and encourages us,” said Amjad Ali Khan.
