NH7 Shakedown features Heems (Das Racist) + DJ Uri + SampleSauce! Himanshu ‘Heems’ Suri is confused. Heems is an Indian-American artist, entrepreneur and activist from Queens, NY. He wants to play guitar but is too lazy to learn and already knows how to rap real good. Known for his often abstract lyrics and alternative style, Heems was one-third of pioneering indie-rap trio Das Racist. Nehru Jackets, Heems’ first solo offering, was released to positive reviews in January of 2012. Heems’ second mixtape, Wild Water Kingdom features production from Harry Fraud, Keyboard Kid, Crookers, Beautiful Lou, Le1f, and Lushlife. In 2014 Heems will release his first solo album featuring production from Diplo, A-Trak, Blood Orange, Rostam Batmanglij, and Harry Fraud etc. Now with SampleSauce, one may expect a night of funky and jazzy hip hop grooves from this unique quartet from London, New York and Mumbai. DJ Uri on the turntables spinning an array of beats, breaks and samples with Pawan playing flute, saxaphone and keyboards on this fully improv set and Mike Mitchell on the drums! Each one’s got their own fare share of experience behind them and make for an insane combination together.
