Rub A Dub Dub is giving young, fresh talent a chance to strut their stuff alongside some of Mumbai’s most popular DJs, with the hope to give the newcomers the experience and confidence to go on to much bigger things.
Kumail : Kumail Hamid is a 20 year old music producer, who for four years now has been experimenting with music of genres ranging from rap to dubstep, which has led to his current work in what can only be classified under the ambiguous label of “electronic music”. His music boldly pushes the level of experimentation of the current “scene” beyond its club friendly confines, exploring the more ethereal regions of sound. Heavily manipulated live recordings coupled with atmospheric synths and meticulously panned rhythm sections form the fundamental characteristics of his tracks.
These sonic qualities are moulded together in a variety of structures, a result of his eclectic set of influences. These influences, that range from the likes of Eskmo, Nicolas Jaar, Mount Kimbie and Shlohmo come through in his DJ set with a selection of their more up-beat, jammable tracks providing a dance experience that is rich in sound.
Algorhythm : A pot-pourri of fresh, eclectic, syncopated beats peppered with some funk. Thats what you can expect from Bombays resident next-door DJs Paloma and Varun.Fresh off the boat and keen on experimentation, think 80s style retro-funk, breakbot, justice, pretty lights et al as far as our choice of music is concerned. And for those of you who need something a little grungier to get your feet-tapping, finger-snapping groove on theres always the promise of a little filthy dnb and some even filthier dubstep. Theres no convoluted skill and high-flying egos over here. Just a duo with a simple music mantra “We like their beats high and their bass down low.”
