The Songbound Children’s Choir first came to the blueFROG stage in March 2013, where they performed via live streaming with a choir from the Jesus College, Cambridge in the UK. It was a truly moving performance and we were certain we wanted to continue to support this wonderful initiative with more such performances.
Founded in 2011, Songbound is a music outreach initiative that uses singing to reach out to some of Indias most disadvantaged children. Through partnerships with Indian NGOs Songbound provides weekly rehearsals and singing lessons to prepare the youngsters for workshops and performances alongside leading musicians and ensembles from across the globe such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, virtuoso violinist Veronika Eberle and the Choir of Jesus College Cambridge.
Through setting up and sustaining choirs in Indias many slum communities, Songbound provides these children with the weekly opportunity to enjoy group singing in a safe environment as they prepare for collaborative events throughout the year with schools, choirs and other musicians worldwide.
Songbound celebrates the diversity of musical traditions amongst its choir leaders who receive specialist training in choral direction from professional musicians. Songbound runs several choirs in various slum areas of Mumbai. Since starting to sing, the children have shown significant signs of development in confidence, focus in learning and diminishing aggression.
Songbounds mission is to give Indias most impoverished children the regular opportunity to achieve their full potential through choir singing of the highest quality and creating close links with other musicians worldwide.
