The Burning Deck began life in the little home studio of bassist Sandeep Madhavan (Old Jungle Saying, The Ticker Tapes) in the later half of 2012. With influences that spanned everything from 70s prog-rock and jazz fusion to the Bristol sound of the 90s, while assimilating elements of drum n bass, dubstep and Asian underground, the sound was always going to be out-of-the-box.
Released on April 12th 2013, the first album ‘Kalinihta’ marked the beginning of an interesting new sound, with myriad influences lending to interesting sound sculptures and soundtracks.
The Burning Deck plans to release their second, titled ‘Deluge’ on June 13th 2014 at The Humming Tree in Bangalore. The sound now embraces live instrumentation and dark, slithering themes, with songs featuring trumpets, vocals, violins, guitars, and drums, performed by a whole host of Indian and international independent artists like Kartik Basker (The Bicycle Days), Arfaaz Kaagalwala (Fuzzy Logic), Katie Mackay (Reason Breeds Monsters), Arjun MPN (Aks) Yadhunandan Nagaraj (Vasundhara Das), Bharath Kumar (Lucky Ali), Gijsbert Ackermans (Old Jungle Saying),Hemanth Diwakaran (Windoze) and Ginette Bernardini (Kitchenkin).
