The Burning Deck began life in the home studio of bassist Sandeep Madhavan (Old Jungle Saying, The Ticker Tapes) in the later half of 2012. With influences that spanned everything from 70s prog-rock and jazz fusion to the Bristol sound of the 90s, while assimilating elements of drum n bass, dubstep and Asian underground, the sound was always going to be out-of-the-box.

Released on April 12th 2013, the first album ‘Kalinihta’ marked the beginning of an interesting new sound, with myriad influences lending to interesting sound sculptures and soundtracks.

The Burning Deck plans to release their second, titled ‘Deluge’ on June 6th 2014 in Bangalore and then take their sound around the country. The sound now embraces live instrumentation and darker, slithering themes, with songs featuring trumpets, vocals, violins, guitars, and drums, performed by a whole host of Indian and international independent artists like Jeet Thayil (Sridhar/Thayil and 2013 Booker Prize nominee for Narcopolis), Kartik Basker (The Bicycle Days), Arfaaz Kaagalwala (Fuzzy Logic), Katie Mackay (Reason Breeds Monsters), Gijsbert Ackermans (Old Jungle Saying) and Ginette Bernardini (Kitchenkin).

The Burning Deck is the solo project of Sandeep Madhavan (Bass/Vocals/Electronics) . When playing as a live setup, the band has a revolving set of players, like Katie Mackay on trumpet and vocals, David Moszko on saxophone, Arjun MPN on flute, Bharath Kumar and Manu Shrivastava on keyboards, Pranav K on mapping and visuals and Yadhunandan Nagaraj on drums.
