Beer Puppets at Blue Frog, Bangalore

Share

This name is kinda tricky which doesn’t really indicate the kind of music being played. Jazz spreads a rich vibe enabling everyone to swing and tap their toes. Compared to the Marionettes the concept derived on the performance of having the backbone of Jazz and Neo soul. While listening to the soulful music with beer, implies adrenaline to jive on. The vibe goes along with the name since it strives to interpret the musical application to a resplendent act having sophistication in the music. Hence the name being conceptualised in a simple yet catchy epithet as “ BEER PUPPETS

The project concludes mainly three heads Shreya Bhattacharya on Vocals, Avishek Dey on Bass and Srinjay Banerjee on guitar mainly based from Calcutta and alumnis of Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, Chennai. The Ska Vengers ‘XX’ album launch at Antisocial, Mumbai

Share

The Ska Vengers is a new Delhi based band who blend ‘ska’ rhythms with elements of dub, punk, jazz and rap to come up with a form of music that is refreshingly different, energetic and highly danceable.

Keys man, Stefan Kaye rounded up a few of his musician friends to form the band in the fall of 2009. All members are well seasoned performers in their own right. Nikhil, Stefan and Tony also play in jazz-punk outfit The Jass B’stards and they are regular performers on India’s first touring cabaret show ‘The Stiff Kittens’ Medicine Show’. Samara C. aka Begum X. is a singer, actor, and a yoga therapist. She is well known as a TV host for her own yoga show on NDTV Good Times. Delhi Sultanate has garnered much praise for his highly skilled, socially conscious rap with drum ‘n’ bass team BASSFoundation and also his own project Word, Sound, Power. Chazz joined the band on guitar this year replacing original member Raghav ‘Diggy’ Dang.

Various members have either won or been nominated for Jack Daniels Rock Awards in keyboards, bass, drums and vocals categories for their work with the band.

The Ska Vengers play very much for the moment as carefully worked out structures are at times elongated and receive dub treatment and Delhi Sultanate’s unique and highly rhythmic patois provides a suitable foil to Samara’s full throttle vocal delivery. It is the band’s highly dance oriented originals which are gaining plaudits from critics and feet moving with fans.

The band’s second LP XX has been three years in the making, and follows the evolution of the band, as much as their music. A A limited run of physical copies of the album will be available on the night, as will T-shirts, badges and stickers.

FNYJ – Frijo’s Not Yet Jazz at Blue Frog, Bangalore

Share

Frijo’s Not Yet Jazz formed in Bangalore, India in January 2013 when pianist/composter Frijo Francis decided to act on his skills and raise the bar of Jazz in India and reaching out to a wider audience with the support of talented musicians and friends he had worked with along the way. Frijo has decided to conquer the limitless sky of music and contribute his style into the world of jazz. He believes that sounds and silences are the key of music and he wants to drive it through this dream project. He sought the assistance of accomplished musicians to create his wonders. His strong classical background is the main foundation of all the creations, which is adding a new meaning altogether. The band involves in bringing out the best in jazz while actively experimenting with various other genres of music ranging from rock or western classical to Indian ragas. Each time they portray their piece of art, there is always a mental sway of musical notes between the spirits of the artists. Jazz being the art of open minds, the band is seeking the mental attitude rather than a style. Their minds expresses spontaneously to produce the most divine music through their musical instrument.
