Goa Goes Jazz – A month-long celebration of Jazz in Goa!

The International Jazz Live Festival (IJLF), the first of a series of social and cultural festivals in Goa, has been planned this month as part of Live Festivals – an initiative of Art Escape – The Live Music Project. IJLF will be a yearly event featuring young and upcoming international and Indian jazz acts as well as some legends from the genre. Live Festivals is an initiative to promote and put Goa on the International map as a cultural tourism global destination using art, dance, film, theatre and music as a medium. Live Festivals will be starting with IJLF in November, Folk Live Festival in January, Sufi Sutra Live Festival in February, Blues Live Festival in March and May Indie Live Festival in May.

IJLF launched its first edition early this month supported by Capital Jazz, the organizers of Jazz Utsav. As a run-up to the main festival, five free gigs are taking place at Live Lounge – Baywatch Resort. The celebration of Jazz began on 2nd November with a tribute to Jazzy Joe by Jazz Goa with Japanese guitarist Hideaki Tokunaga, followed by Bangalore’s fusion/jazz band Moon Arra on the 9th of November. On 16th, Steve Siqueira Quartet, is set to take the stage followed by Aditya Balani Quartet, who will launch their debut album on the 23rd of this month.

The main festival is scheduled for November 30th and December 1st at the Baywatch Resort, Goa. Here’s the complete festival schedule:

Day 1 (30th November, Saturday – 6:30pm onwards)

The festival will close with a felicitation of Legends of Jazz (Unsung Heroes of Jazz) from India.
