Tarik + The Shakey Rays at Hauz Khas Social, Delhi

Social throws the Spotlight this month on punk rockers from Shillong, Tarik and Delhi-based rockers, The Shakey Rays!TarikTarik is an audiovisual act from Shillong whose musical content is an eccentric blend of punk and radical themes with a Khasi twist. Strongly rooted in a DIY philosophy, the members of Tarik are proud of their uncompromisingly honest approach to music capturing the spirit of the space they come from- Shillong. While descriptions by mainstream media have ranged from: grotesque, gutsy, rare gems, vulgar and edgy, to ridiculously profound, Tarik goes largely unaccredited (quite happily) for pioneering the advocacy of radical politics in the largely derivative music scene of Shillong.

Over the past three years, Tarik has garnered a dedicated cult following in Shillong and elsewhere.

The Shakey Rays

The Shakey Rays are a four piece independent Rock ‘n’ Roll band originalyy from Chennai, India.
Songwriting duo Dhruva Gautham and Vikram Kannan have been regular performers since their early teens and found moderate success with their first band, Easy Street in the late noughties.
After disbanding the group, they got together with drummer Niranjan Swaminathan to form The Shakey Rays, writing songs raw and rooted in Rhythm ‘n’ Blues, exploring various arrangements and musical patterns – with an approach that is fresh and contemporary, presented with the aggressive energy and attitude of Garage Rock and Punk.
The band released its debut album, ‘Tunes From The Big Belly’ and toured the country shortly thereafter. In early 2013, they moved to Delhi and have since found their footing in the music circuit there and consolidated their line up with local bassist Rohit Bhattacharya permanently filling the elusive postion.
