Share

This DJ/Producer duo is based out of the dance music capital of India – Bangalore. Having known each other since the age of 15, their passion for music has literally evolved with them over the years.Habeeb moved to Sydney in 2007 and in 2010, he began his career with music production and DJ-ing from DJ Warehouse (Sydney). Shruthdev on the other hand, practiced music production at the Beatworks studio and began his career as a DJ instructor at the Audio life studio. They learnt and performed individually but the same, shared passion and interest in the selection of music brought them together. They decided to amalgamate their distinct ideas. Combining forces led them to playing together at some of the best venues in India. This has offered not just wide exposure, but numerous opportunities to perform alongside some of the finest talent in the industry. And it has opened their minds, helping them understand various genres.

Mental machines was a project kickstarted in late 2013. Both Habeeb and Shruthdev have been deeply inspired by the sets & sounds of legends such as Kink, Ian Pooley, Krink, NTFO, Fur Coat, David August, Konstantin K, Mind Against, James Gill and Adriatique. National artists – Kohra, Arjun Vagale, Praveen Achary and Audio Units. They have found their home ground on the deeper sides of house & techno.

Doktor Daniel
Based out of New Delhi , Daniel is quintessentially a drummer turned DJ/producer and has been DJing while using his understanding as a drummer constantly pushing the limits of perspective sounds he loves to throw down on the dance floor through his DJ sets.

His music style is mainly ranges from deep house to techno with a little bit of tech house thrown in the middle.

Divij Kaul
Music has been in Divij’s blood since birth. His first interaction with music came at the mere age of 10 when he started his journey through Indian classical music. He trained for seven years under the watchful eyes of Shri Asha Pande giving two exams in the process from the reputed Indian classical music school Pracheen Kala Kendra where he secured a distinction. During this time he had also learnt how to play the Tabla, Harmonium and Tanpura, three classical Indian instruments. Divij grew up listening to a variety of genres of music but found a sudden change in his music taste after he went to Malaysia for his education and has been hooked to electronic dance music since.

Avantika Bakshi
A shape-shifting mindset–her music is more than what meets the ears, it is also the woman behind the decks: sincere, spirited, fearless. Her mix sets are expressive expeditions, incorporating a variety of melodic flavors that create lasting emotional experiences for the listener. While she believes in genre bending, she enjoys playing deep house, tech-house, deep techno, nu-disco & indie dance. Taking divine inspiration from the Bhagwad Gita, her sound blends the east and west and makes the soul & feet dance alike. This is Avantika. Deep, emotive, euphoric.

Hoax
Akshay Bhalla aka Bhallanator was first introduced to electronic when he came across a track on a CD given to him by his parents when he was just a kid. It didn’t take him long to realise his love for this music and soon he found himself heading towards the world of clubbing. In 2007 he started with his short residency at Ministry of Sound, London after which he explored the management side of things at MOS, Fabric and The Egg.

In 2012, his passion for the music culminated in the launch of India’s first ever electronic music magazine, Euphoric Magazine. Having opened for artists like Joseph Capriati, tyDi, Anna, Tenishia, Jerome Is Mae, Arctic Moon, The Viceroy, Indecent Noise, Lange, Ashley Wallbridge over the years, he has also played at venues like Blue Frog in Delhi & Bombay, Fabric & MOS in London, Kitty Su & I-Kandy in Delhi, Pebbles in Bangalore, and Pasha in Chennai amongst many others.

A Night of Live Electronica ft. Curtain Blue & Sid Vashi at Bonobo, Mumbai

Share

Curtain Blue, known to his peers as Abhishek Bhatia is a formidable talent in the Indian musical circuit. He is known for his fractured beats, commanding vocal delivery and unique melodic sensibility, drawing inspiration from forward thinking alternative electronic outfits like Radiohead, Apparat, Moderat and Jon Hopkins.

His ‘Drones’ EP saw him travel as far as London as part of an Indian showcase at Alchemy, Southbank Centre’s annual festival showcasing the best of dance, music, theatre, design, fashion, comedy and literature from the UK and South Asia. This was alongside a show at Brighton’s renowned Great Escape Festival.

Sid Vashi is a producer and multi-instrumentalist from the suburbs of Detroit, currently residing in Mumbai. Having grown up with a deep love for bollywood music and jazz saxophone, Vashi crafts textural electronic pop music that incorporates elements of jazz, experimental electronica, and hip hop, often using samples from old Indian records and field recordings from around the country. His 2013 debut LP entitled ‘Motherland Tourism’ garnered praise from influential webzines such as The Wild City and THUMP by Vice, and set the framework for his upcoming material which is due early this year. In the interim, Vashi has recently begun performing a combination of old and new material with both live and electronic instrumentation, having already played at many major festivals and venues across the country. In 2016, he plans to release a bevy of new original music as well as collaborations with other artists in the independent scene.

Nucleya at Hybrid, Delhi

Share

Nucleya redefines Indian electronica by creating a combination of complex cut-up alters and unheard Indian sounds, with cutting-edge production and genre-defying rhythms. For the love of Indian electronica and a craving to make what might be Indian electronica later on, Nucleya is making music that he needs to hear on the grounds, which nobody else has made it for him. This is the next level of Indian electronica in India. Nucleya has been established by Udyan Sagar, a previous member of the Bandish Projekt. Udyan is, to a great degree, an adaptable craftsman, who is not just an artist, but rather a music-maker and a sound-planner. His live performances extend his flexibility and skill, better than expected.

Echo ft. Delhi Sulatanate (BFR), Alter State & Moniker at Antisocial, Delhi

Share

Echo is a club night dedicated to sound system culture that we began this time last year, in collaboration with BASSFoundation Root’s main man Delhi Sultanate (Taru Dalmia) and Alter State (Sanil Sudan).

Delhi Sultanate
Born in New Delhi, India but having spent formative years in Germany and the US (Bay Area), Delhi Sultanate, has long pioneered the sounds of dancehall / hip hop and performance poetry in India. In addition to his solo career, he is the MC and a founding member of BASSFoundation, New Delhi’s first dubstep, drum ‘n’ bass and reggae sound system, as well as lead singer of India’s first ska and rocksteady band The Ska Vengers.

In 2010 he started ‘Word, Sound, Power’ along with producer Chris McGuinness, who is based in Brooklyn, NYC. The organization is dedicated to producing documentary films and musical collaborations featuring revolutionary singers from different parts of the Indian subcontinent. Word, Sound, Power creates bilingual tracks that embody the revolutionary and uplifting spirit of Dancehall Reggae and reflect life in India. The venture received extensive coverage by AFP, BBC Asian Network and MTV. The films can be viewed on wordsoundpower.org, where all the music is available for free download.

Alter State is Sanil Sudan’s deeper/sub heavy take on Bass Music, following a journey like structure in his sets on and off the floor. Tracks handpicked to match various styles and mood, Alter State can always be relied on to push conventional sounds into new and unconventional directions.

Moniker
Head honcho of Indian magazine and cultural hub thewildcity.com, aptly named Wild City DJ a.k.a Moniker has a peculiar and varied taste in music. Straddling hip-hop, garage, grime, bass, house, techno, alternative electronica and anything in between, WCDJ always brings an informative set, favouring upfront and left of centre music over yesterday’s tired hits. Having been a part of the underground electronic movement in London for a number of years WCDJ brings to the table a fresh and undeniably UK sound to his live shows.

Oozeundat, Audio Glitch, Qwiver, Orbs & Zen at Kitty Su, Mumbai

Share

Oozeundat, the brainchild of Roan and Sidhant was born through the mutual respect that both the artists shared towards underground electronic dance music. They are known to produce and deliver very thoughtful and intensely crafted sets. Within the span of their relatively short career, they have opened for artists such as Dubfire, Guy J, Spektre, Arjun Vagale, Anil Chawla , B.L.O.T and Kohra, taking audiences on a musical journey dwelling on deep, obscure and twisted techno.

Audio Glitch are Pratik Umrigar and Chaitanya Gaikwad.?The young and energetic duo hail from Pune. They came together a few years back and instantly connected. Their strong bond of friendship was nurtured by their hugely similar tastes in music. Armed with the technical know how, ‘Audio Glitch’ came into existence in the beginning of 2010. They really couldn’t have timed it better. Hugely comfortable with their vast knowledge of tech music, their ‘sound’ is dominated by bass heavy grooves, crunchy Snares and straight up dark, clipped beats which bind you to the dancefloor and keep you bouncing for hours!?. Audio Glitch is already fast growing in popularity, and not just in Pune. Spending most of their time in their studio right now they hope to release some of their own music as soon as possible.

Qwiver is the brainchild of Mumbai based Lynston Dsouza. Born in the early 90’s, Music has always been a passion for this young versatile DJ. However, the thought of being a Disk Jockey only occurred to him in 2006 when he played at his 1st private party. There has been absolutely no stopping this 23 year old ever since, who has spun at over 300 private gigs. However, the year 2013 witnessed the launch of his techno alter ego – Qwiver.

As a DJ, Qwiver’s range of music stretches from Deep House to Minimal, with Tech-House and Techno being his main genres of interest. His choice of sound is a unique mix of groove and intricate detail. Qwiver’s conceptual DJ sets, both in the studio for podcasts as well as at live gigs is a true indicator of his understanding of techno and dance music in general.
