Share

Dualist Inquiry is the brainchild and solo project of Sahej Bakshi, a music producer, guitarist and cerebral agent who graduated from the Thornton Music School at USC in Los Angeles, CA. Sandunes

Sandunes is known for her diverse blend of electronica which combines jazz rooted, eclectic sensibilities with progressive electronic elements. Her upbringing as a pianist and keyboard player allows her to create emotive beds of sound pertaining to an indie electronica/dance music space – a fusion of London inspired ingredients tied together with a unique South Asian feel.

In 2013, Sandunes released ‘Ever Bridge’ – an independent art and music project for which she worked with several graphic artists and designers from different disciplines to portray subjectivity and interpretive freedoms within music. In 2014, she released ‘Slybounce’ – the title track of which was a breakaway hit, followed by the premier of a critically acclaimed animated video for ‘Exit Strategy’, the second single off the EP.

Soulspace

Soulspace distances himself with more exploratory tempos and an experimental beat-maker approach, of which cities like Los Angeles or London are particularly well known for. Yet, the electronica producer behind Soulspace, is worlds apart – hailing from New Delhi, India.
Capable of shifting an aural ambience from downtempo summertime grooves to more club friendly music in a blink of an eye – he produces tracks with melodic, soulful and straight up dance floor sensibilities.

Recently, launching himself with a stunning debut self-titled LP, he’s already earned support from artists such as Laurent Garnier (F Communications), Nick Warren (Hope Recordings), Kollektiv Turmstrasse (Connaisseur recordings), Komon (Aus music), Denney (Hot creations), Mark Farina (Om records), Miss Nine, Robert Owens (Off recordings), Hollis P Monroe (Noir/Defective) and Pablo Bolivar.

Hashback Hashish & The Sine Painter at Summerhouse Cafe, Delhi

Share

Hashback Hashish

The music of Ashish Sachan confronts you with a simplicity that is both earnest, but also misleading – if you drill down there are details that only a pair of headphones (and perhaps a taste of his adopted name) can reward you with.
Firmly rooted in the minimalist tradition, his narrative offers something for electronic music fans across the spectrum – committed geeks who respect musical history on one end, and on the other, those who could care less about the past and just want to lose it on a dancefloor.
His 2015 release “Brevity” is a must listen to if one wants to get a sense of what is going on in India right now, masterfully merging local motifs with relentless programming sophistication.

The Sine Painter (Delhi Debut)

Judging by his floating and dreamy deep house, Bangalore producer Jayanth Ramachandra made a shrewd move eschewing his interest for playing metal guitar during college. Inspired by the likes of Levon Vincent, British house don Matthew Herbert, and German mainstay Roman Flu?gel, Ramachandra’s rolling, elastic rhythms and stripped, warm grooves play into his philosophy of striving to balance entertainment with art. He says his music sounds like “a cyborg trying to make emotional dance music,” and we couldn’t agree more.” – Red Bull Music Academy
Jayanth Ramachandra aka The Sine Painter is an upcoming artist based out of Bangalore, India. Having completed his degree in Information Science Engineering, he went on to dedicate himself full time to his passion that is deep electronic music. His music maybe described long and melodic with dance floor sensibilities and is usually set between 100 and 120 BPM.
His influences range from ambient experimental music to German techno to Chicago house. In July of 2015 it was announced that Jayanth was the only Indian participant to be selected for the 2015 edition of the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy, to be held in Paris.

Oliver Huntemann & Kohra at Summerhouse Cafe, Delhi

Share

Oliver Huntemann

Myths abound in the north when it comes to techno ground zero, and they refuse to go away. Oliver Huntemann is one of a handful of children of the north who, for what seems like an eternity, add an element of credence to the mythology. He does not, of course, live in a snowy forest or at the edge of the polar oceans. The sun does, on occasion, shine down on Hamburg. Nevertheless, there is a tendency towards hypothermic reduction in the rigorous efficiency of the Huntemann oeuvre. Images of cold storage warehouses, desolate heavy plant sites and bluish flesh are not entirely misplaced. Shards of German Engineering glimmer in his music, laced with persuasive logic, gruesome Darwin- ism. What remains: what works.

Whilst hordes of German producers and DJs set their satnavs for Berlin, Oliver Huntemann chose to head back home. His epicenter is, and will remain, the north. Hamburg, to be exact. This is where he produces his music and it is from here that he sets out into the world, thrilling the populous with his DJ sets.

Spread over 2CDs, PLAY! relays the natural energy of the dance-floor and the gig, whilst also indicating that the listening experience is in the hands of an artist who has a clear vision for his musical journeys. PLAY! is an accurate representation of the music Oliver is currently playing at his DJ gigs, and the selection reminds us why he has remained relevant for more than two decades.

Kohra

Kohra is the deep, hypnotic and often grungy mirror image of Madhav Shorey. Raw analog signals and lush soundscapes mixed with percussion sounds and sharp glitches is what can be heard through his mysterious productions. A style that is intelligent enough to mesmerize, yet simple enough to move you.

Constantly paving the way for a new sub-culture of underground dance music is no task for the timid, which is why he has already become the first Indian to have hit the top 10 charts on global industry standards such as Beatport. As a producer his music has been signed to many well respected international record labels including Sounds Of Earth, Trident Music, Wide Angle Recordings and Echoes Records to name a few.

His Live set comprise his own productions performed in a deconstructive format with a constantly evolving component of granular synthesis, vocal sampling, various percussion and effect units. As a Dj, his sets are extremely captivating and reflect a distinct progressive, organic and streamlined approach to techno. He maintains that not only through his high standards of track selection but also with the release schedule of his own quality imprint of Qilla Records.

Kohra has performed at some of the best festivals in India, Dubai, Italy and Australia and is also the official label Dj for Zenon Records. The fact that he has been officially endorsed by leading brands such as Blackberry and Puma is only further authentication of his work.

Else If + Alterstate at Barsoom, Delhi

Share

Else if is a genre-free act from New Delhi, India comprising of G “Force” Arjun & Puneesh Suri. They draw inspiration from sounds around them, live instruments & technology.

Their music essentially comprises of odd time signatures & rhythms, layered natural & unnatural soundscapes over grooves that seem to possess a mind of their own. Most of their musical ideas are conceived using acoustic instruments & objects which later mutate and crossbreed with technology to take an entirely new form.

They use Gibson guitars, Line 6 amps & pedals, Ableton Live & its array of instruments fused with a fair bit of their imagination.

As one quarter of now defunct pioneering electronic live act Jalebee Cartel, G Force was instrumental in the band’s love for technology. He was on production duties in the studio and bass guitar duties on stage.

A music producer & classically trained guitarist, Puneesh spent 3 years in New York perfecting his production & engineering skills at some of the biggest and most famous recording studios.
What these people do together, is surreal.
