Dada Life at Kitty Su’s Pleasuredome, Mumbai

Share

It’s time to grab some bananas and pop some bottles. India, are you ready to feed the Dada?

Swedish duo Dada Life (Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom) have seen a steady rise to fame, as audiences worldwide have followed and fully embraced the rules of the Dada. They’ve made waves in the DJ Mag Top 100 list in the past three years and currently sit at the #35 position. But this doesn’t matter to Dada Life; all they want to do is goof off, and have a great time!

These two party-rockers have always been on the forefront of dance music; regularly producing foot stomping, dance-worthy tracks. With cult hits like ‘Happy Violence’ and ‘Feed the Dada’, their live performances are not only brimming with heavy tracks, but are also topped off with champagne floaters and banana peels.

They’ve also created a philosophy, that is: ”Destroy dance music and have fun. Don’t look back in the past. Always go forward. Don’t think too much. Always follow the money. Do that Dada.”

Singer Songwriter Night at The Blue Frog, Mumbai

Share

Artists : Aria Nanji, Joash Benedict, Shona Dias

Joash Benedict

Joash Benedict is a singer song writer. He’s been inspired by many artist such as John Mayer dave Matthews and so on. He performs indie acoustic musicAria Nanji
Aria, as her name suggests, has always shared her love for music, both in school events and more recently in blueFROG to packed audiences. She will be leaving soon to do her summer studies in Berklee College Of Music and  hopes  to take up a career in music after high school.
She already has a big fan following and to quote from a recent blogspot

“Aria Nanji reveals a voice that comes straight down from heaven”

The Shona Dias Collective
Shona Dias comes from a family of three generation of musicians. She has performed at various stages across the city including Hard Rock Café and The blueFROG among others. She plays the guitar, violin and keyboards but prefers to belt it out on stage. Previously a feature journalist, she now has a music dedicated blog titled ‘Between my Earphones’ and also writes music columns for magazines.

Meera & Shayan
Meera & Shayan are a singer/songwriter duo from Mumbai and Pune…because sometimes one city just doesn’t cut it. Meera Shenoy plays the guitar with something approaching gentle ferocity. We are all worried about her.

Shayan Roy is currently studying music, much to the dismay of his loved ones. He has had the vocal chords of a better singer installed in his throat. We worry about him as well. Meera’s influences include Ben L’oncle Soul because French, Mac Demarco because hipster cred, Esperanza Spalding…because…look at her. Shayan dreams of combining Eddie Vedder’s power, Jeff Buckley’s soul and Radiohead’s experimentation to create some sort of laboratory abomination.

With their influences, they hope to explore the dynamics of their musical extremes, which results in their music being anything from sad, bluesy songs to stripped down electronic artists. They believe in anything that inspires and feels good.

Boombaba + Jitter at The Blue Frog, Mumbai

Share

Boombaba

Boombaba a.k.a Tarun is the moniker of Mumbai based Dj/producer Tarun Shahani who started producing electronic music after being inspired by meeting Delhi based duo Midival Punditz. Seeing them use early sequencers like Cakewalk to produce electronic beats and Melodies made him realize how it was actually possible to be a band by yourself and create music solely on a computer. Up until then he was djing and working with MTV as a host for shows like ClubMtv.

He started producing music on early sequencers like acid and fruity loops and realized that he lacked the principles of audio production having never worked in a studio. Though he was happy with the sounds he was creating and the arrangements, he missed the polished mixing that he had heard In the music of his favourite artists. He did a stint at SAE Chennai where his real obsession with audio started.

Tarun is now a renowned DJ, Music Producer and Sound Designer, having played at some of the most popular pubs in Mumbai and Chennai, as well as at the Sunburn Goa

Jitter
Jayant’s obsession with creating music, started at an early age. While his friends studied, and his parents worried, he immersed himself in sounds, creating his own unique brand of electronica. His curiosity and eagerness has not waned since. He began producing music in 2003 and has done numerous projects since working with artists such as Anoushka Shankar, Chebi Sabah, Karsh Kale, Midival Punditz, to name a few. He’s also produced music for a few film scores. Despite having no formal training in music theory, Jayant has created exceptional work with all of these artists and continues to work with many more.

Boundaries as an artist are practically limitless for him, and that ethos reflects in all his work. His influences come from a wide spectrum of artists and musicians ranging from Indian classical, electronica, rock, psy-chill, trance, techno and ambient. Jayant has developed a unique style of music by experimenting with all these genres. He works with what moves him emotionally and translates that experience into his own, eclectic electronic sound. Even though these genres give a fundamental idea of his work, you still cannot characterize what you really experience and feel at his shows. It is indescribable in words alone, you just have to come, listen and see for yourself.

Jiiter is a Live/Dj Minimal & Techno act by Jayant. The Sound of Jitter is very edgy, experimental, dancy and psychedelic in nature, almost bridging the gap between outdoor and club. Alongside Jitter, he is also a part of Karsh Kale’s band and has been touring with him since early 2012. He has also recently been voted No.2 Dj in DJ Mag India.

Da high Cookout feat. Bhavishyavani Future Soundz at High Spirits, Pune

Share

Bombay boy M.MAT from Bhavishyavani Future Soundz (BFS) is heading to Da High!

Bhavishyavani Future Soundz (BFS) was formed in the mid 90?s – before you could listen to DJ mixes online and when clubs played only bollywood and retro music. Trips abroad, raves, imported mix tapes and drum’n’bass, and fresh sounds from the Asian underground brought together a group of like-minded creatives – Mr Tee, Bhaisaab, Insat, Kutklass Masta Justy – to start Bhavishyavani Future Soundz.

First it was parties in dodgy bars managed by wannabe mafiosos. Then it was neon-lit Gandhi-glasses parties and events at Bombay’s hippest and shadiest venues. A decade later, they kicked off the 21st century by welcoming a crop of French Bombay refugees into the fold: Charlee, MMAT and Loopkin.

Together BFS bring a necessary dose of beats, synthesizers and eye delights to Bombay’s party people and electronic music aficionados. Over the years they’ve developed a cult following in Mumbai and events across Asia and Europe. BFS has only one motto: “BETTER THAN TOMORROW’S PARTY”

M.MAT – Driven by his passion for electronic music, Mathieu Josso aka M.MAT, has become a pillar of the house/techno music scene in India. Leading the cult Bombay collective Bhavishyavani Future Soundz, he has organized events and performed with artists such as Laurent Garnier, Mathew Jonson, Chloe, dOP, DJ Koze,Dixon, MANDY or Cobblestone Jazz to name a few. His love for old school house/techno sound or the more contemporary electronic music has influenced his eclectic djing style which blends vintage dance music gems and fresh bouncy beats. M.MAT was ranked in DJ MAG India top 5 in 2012.

This is going to be quite the hardcore Cookout, perfect to start your Monsoon with! Don’t miss out, peeps!

Bourbonese The DJ and DJ Regge at Auriga, Mumbai

Share

EDM and the best of house tunes from the globe !!!! Minimal to Maxi Groove with Bourbonese – The DJ and DJ Regge

Indeed, some of the best terms to describe DJ Regge would be an all rounder DJ with the best track sense and timing, who knows what tunes are needed for what kind of audience and/or event at any given time.. The kind of tunes that would make them joyously celebrate the night away, have a time of their life and remember him for it..simultaneously whilst him being technically sound behind those decks as decribed by his audiences and critics alike!

Regge, who has been spinning people around the dancefloor started more than 6 years back, his very first gig being at a high profile new years eve gig at a luxury farmhouse . He became an instant hit since then, and just when u think he cant get better than his last gig, surprises all with every performance with different cutting edge styles and technique different from any other common “jukebox DJ’s” in the market..After all, he has been named as Pune’s Top 5 Upcoming DJ’s by none other than Midday..

The Bourbonese brand of handpicked genres includes – minimal, tech, deep, funky, vocal and beach house, nu-skool jazz, ambient, lounge (up tempo and down tempo), Trance.

To cut a long story short, electronica entered her life much before she recalls, as she grew up
listening to her parents’ Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, and collection of mix tapes from electronic radio stations from around the world.

Barely before turning 10, she wanted to DJ. Her premiere performance was at 17,her first audience being the globetrotting societe haute of cosmopolitan Bombay, shortly she was hired by various 5 star hotels in the maximum city (Bombay) for their exclusive events and club nights.

However, a free 7 years of making major cities like Mumbai, Chennai & Bangalore dance to her tunes, her musical ears demanded a fresher aspect of the partying and clubbing scene. It was
then that she was one of the first ever lady DJs to shift to sunny Goa, the “Indian Ibiza”.

Now, this global girl plays various genres of electronica fit for the city slicker audience and for the daylong (and sometimes nightlong!!) soirees on the beach. Her sets vary from the usual lounge, ambient, chillout, down tempo tunes to more bouncy happy beats , ranging from commercial house
to beach house, and high power beats that won’t stop you from getting your groove on!

SASHA CHETTRI (Dehradun) – Folk/Alt Pop

A mix of Folk and Alternative pop, Sasha composer and singer-songwriter, creates melodies that haunt. Originally from the city of Dehradun, her influences are varied and include Sufi, Punk Rock, Jazz, and Pahadi folk. Growing up listening to a spectrum of artists like Nat King Cole, Toad the Wet Sproket, FooFighters, Korn and Fleetwood Mac, Sasha moved on to the origins of Western & Hindustani classical and Sufi in search of different sounds, her experiments have been eclipsed by the search for perfect sync between emotion and melody – where these 2 meet is where her heart is at peace.

NICHOLSON (Mumbai) – Electro-Organic

Nicholson is a singer-songwriter & keyboardist based out of Mumbai who is heavily influenced by jazz, folk and electronic music. His original compositions are a blend of electronic and organic sounds and are a direct reflection of his outlook on life & love. Nicholson’s ensemble is straying away from the traditional ‘band setup’. He aims to create sound sculptures by treating machines as instruments in a very emotive, organic manner. This is an exciting new wave of music, which is focused on achieving the highest levels of production quality in-studio and live on-stage.
The Band consists of electronic duo Dirty Jays, and Producer/Drummer Rohan Ramanna.

MOSKO (New Delhi) – Garage/Dance

MOSKO is an avant-garde duo from Delhi comprising of Kavya Trehan and Moses Koul. An eclectic mix of posh, groove laden electronica and smooth acoustic jams. They came together to form MOSKO just 10 odd days before their first ever performance at Ragasthan 2014 Music Festival that happens in the middle of the Khuri Dunes. And ever since then there has been no looking back for them. Deriving influences from topics and subjects as diverse as Manga and anime to tea, independent drama and films. An evocative cinematic experience with a hint of ballroom waltz, emotional subversion and copious amounts of noir, this evening also marks the band’s Mumbai debut!
