Mumbai-based death metal band Demonic Resurrection have just been announced to play at Wacken Open Air 2014. WOA is one of the worlds biggest metal festivals with almost 80,000 attendees in the small village of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. DR has previously performed at the Inferno Metal Festival and Brutal Assault in 2010. Formed in the year 2000, DR has stood strong for 14 years with very few lineup changes and have released an EP followed by three studio albums in this period, in addition to their amazing repertoire of live performances. Chennai-based alt-rock band Grey Shack have released their latest track titled ‘Country Song‘ which is the first of six releases that are collectively called The Soundgarden Sessions. According to the band, this track marks an evolution in their sound when compared to their first album Step Outside. The band describes their new sound as “more organic, and true to the rawness of rock n roll.” The song has been written and recorded by Rohan Sen – Vocals, Vikram Vivekanand – Guitars/backing vocals, Conrad Simmons – Bass/backing vocals, Vinay Ramakrishnan – Drums and recorded at Soundgarden Studios, Pondicherry. It has been mixed by Toby Joseph and mastered at Black Dog Mastering Studios, Florida.
Chennai-based rock band Junkyard Groove have replaced their guitarist, Merwyn Christopher with Garage Monsters Inc. frontman, Josh Mark Raj. Apart from working with eminent directors like Harris Jayaraj and Yuvan Shankar, Raj has also been a part of widely known rock bands such as Moksha and No Idea. Currently, he plays for Roxygen and when asked how different his work with Junkyard Groove is going to be, he explains, Since Ive always been a classic rock kinda guy it sure is a little different for me, but I seem to be fitting in pretty well. Bangalore’s favourite rockers Thermal and a Quarter are screening a film for the first time ever, and playing a special gig alongside. The band describes it as “A movie about artists, musicians and other mad people. It’s about us, them and you. It’s about triumph and tragedy and rebirth and resilience. It’s a story, it’s a song, it’s a statement.” The band claims that this gig will feature some “absolutely killer music” that fans have probably never heard. Titled ‘WFW / DFD,’ the movie is about 40 minutes long, and it apparently took over six months to make. Bangalore-based progressive-rock band Slain has released their latest single titled ‘Firesea‘. The song features Siddharth Basrur of Goddess Gagged fame on vocals and Slain’s 17-piece-choir, The Choral Riff. Progressive metal band Midhaven from Mumbai signed to Universal Music, who recently announced their debut album Spellbound have released a lyric video for the first single ‘Seeking The Divine‘. Frontman Karan Kaul says “Seeking the Divine is a melodic piece with sludge metal elements. Its story talks about finding a loved one’s soul somewhere in the afterlife.” The album is slated to release next week on all major digital platforms and will be available in the physical format in April. The first edition of Shillong Open Air named “Rain Revolt” scheduled for June 7th 2014, Polo Grounds, Shillong will be headlined by US Death Metal legends Dying Fetus. They will be supported by India’s Death Metal band Third Sovereign and this is set to be their exclusive comeback gig after a long hiatus. Other bands on the lineup are Nepal’s modern metal band Underside, Bangalore’s Progressive Metalcore act Cheisrah and Shillong’s extreme metal band Plague throat. Watch this space for more details!
